The Federal Reserve (FED) raised rates 75 basis points this day, as the market consensus expected, in its effort to contain inflation.

The Fed said it "anticipates that continued increases in the target range will be appropriate."

The benchmark rate was raised to a range of 2.25% to 2.5% from 1.5% to 1.75% previously.
